As the designer of the Kutubna Cultural Centre, located in the heart of Dubai, my goal was to create a space that fosters cultural exchange, artistic collaboration, and community engagement. Kutubna is a multifunctional venue dedicated to promoting Khaliji writers and Middle Eastern artists, with a flexible architectural design that adapts to diverse activities—from art exhibitions to literary readings and workshops.

Flexible Spatial Design

The design of Kutubna revolves around flexibility and adaptability; key principles in contemporary architecture. The building’s layout is divided into distinct zonal configurations, each carefully planned to accommodate various functions. The centre features open-plan spaces that can be reconfigured depending on the event. For instance, partition walls can be moved to adjust the size of the rooms, enabling the space to morph from an expansive gathering hall to an intimate discussion area. This spatial versatility ensures that Kutubna can host everything from large community events to smaller, focused artistic workshops.

One of the defining features is the art display wall, which serves as a dynamic canvas for showcasing rotating exhibitions from Khaliji visual artists.
